About
Hawa Akter owns a hatchery in Kuturikona village, Madan upazila, Netrokona. In this village duck eggs are hatched without electricity, using rice husk and hurricane-lamp heat, and theirs is one of the village's 138 small and large hatcheries. With small savings they set up a hatchery for 10,000 ducklings, which family members run together. Hawa Akter says it now earns about Tk 50,000 a month and has made the family financially secure.
