About
Yasin Mia's hatchery in Kuturikona (Kothurikona) village, Madan upazila, Netrokona, is the largest in the village; duck eggs are hatched there without electricity or modern incubators, using rice husk and the heat of hurricane lamps. The method was started around 1990 by his late elder brother Hadis Ullah; struggling to feed his seven-member family, Yasin followed his brother's advice, bought 1,000 eggs and began. He told The Daily Star (August 2026) that his farm alone produces 100,000 ducklings a month; TBS (August 2025) reported over 150,000 a month. He buys fertilised eggs at Tk 20 each and sells ducklings at Tk 40–50. He formed the 'Rice Husk Incubation System Society' with 138 hatchery owners of the village and is its president. He trains rural women and farmers in duck rearing and natural egg hatching at home and abroad (Meghalaya in India, Indonesia, Nepal); he is a trainer recognised by the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute and the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, and his work has had European Union support.
