Humayun Badsha, son of Ismail Hossain, of Raghabendrapur village in Binodnagar union, Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur, has run a betel leaf garden (boroj) on 28 decimals for seven years. In the 2024 season his costs were Tk 50,000; by January he had sold Tk 70,000 worth of betel leaf and expected to sell at least Tk 1.2 lakh more during the year. Betel farming has brought his family financial comfort. The upazila has gone from none to 44 betel gardens, and its betel leaf is sent to other districts too.
