About
Jamalpur Mou Khamar is a bee farm that Nahid Ahammed (35) set up at his home in Banderbari, Jamalpur town. Unemployed at the time, he took a five-day beekeeping training in January 2024 on the advice of an elder acquaintance, then started with 20 bee boxes and Tk 1 lakh of capital. Before that he had worked as a tutor, in a private job and ran a small grocery shop. In the November to May season he moves his boxes to mustard, sesame, black seed, lychee and rubber plantations in Jamalpur, Sarishabari, Tangail, Dinajpur and Sunamganj, harvesting each box two or three times a month. He sells honey retail and wholesale and also has a Facebook page for honey sales, with about 200 regular customers. Prothom Alo (April 2025) put his monthly income at Tk 40,000 to 50,000. He has received an award for his success in beekeeping. He plans to buy 50 more boxes next year and wants to train unemployed young people in beekeeping.
