About
Rasel Sardar of Barpaika village in Agailjhara Upazila left his job as headmaster of a school he had founded and started fish farming in 2010 with Tk 1 lakh from his mother. He now has more than a hundred ponds and enclosures, the Jamuna Matsya Hatchery and a fish-feed mill called 'Padma Feed'; over 150 people work in these businesses. The hatchery produces spawn and fry of pabda, sarputi, tengra, shing, koi, gulsha, pangas, Vietnamese koi, monosex tilapia and carp species, about 20 million a year.
