About
Kajal Mia (36) of Naodabash village in Mohendranagar union, Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila, used to work as a poorly paid day labourer. He now grows improved fodder grass on unused land and is his family's sole earner. Every morning he cuts the grass and takes it by van to Barobari bazar in Sadar, where farmers, householders and cattle farmers buy it. Bundles sell for Tk 10-20 each depending on size; he sells Tk 1,200-1,500 worth a day and earns Tk 35,000-45,000 a month. He also keeps a few cows. Farmers say his grass is comparatively cheap. He hopes to expand his grass farming and give work to local jobless people.
