Kazi Agro Food Resort and Ecopark is Abu Raihan Faruk's 7.5-acre integrated farm in Muktarag village, Belgacha union, Kurigram Sadar upazila. Faruk, who studied botany at Kurigram Government College, saw an orange tree in Bogura in 2018 and planted a sapling at home; when it fruited the next year he bought more than a hundred saplings for one bigha, and his first commercial harvest brought about Tk 50,000. Oranges now cover two bighas, and this year he sold about Tk 3 lakh of oranges and Tk 3 lakh of orange saplings. In 2021 he began growing grapes commercially with about 200 saplings brought from Russia and Ukraine; he claims it is the country's first commercial vineyard, and ginger grows under the vine trellises. The farm also has about 500 Katimon and BARI-4 mango trees, some 4,000 areca nut palms, and malta, dragon fruit, apple and other fruit trees. A nursery of about two bighas produces grafted saplings from the best trees, sold to districts across Bangladesh and to India, and other nursery owners come to collect cuttings. Last year he sold about Tk 32 lakh of fruit and saplings, Tk 12 lakh of it grape saplings. Six regular workers are paid monthly wages, with part-time hands taken on when work is heavy.
