About
Laipruchai Marma, a cane furniture maker in Khagrachhari town, has made cane furniture on his own initiative for about four years. He says cane furniture is in high demand locally, many people take it outside the district, and demand lasts all year. Using gola, budum and moricha cane that grows naturally in the hills, the region's makers produce sofa sets, box beds, bookshelves, dressing tables, rocking chairs, easy chairs, swings, trays and more. He believes bank loans and modern training would draw many more people into the trade.
