About
Golam Rabbani (42), son of Belal Uddin of Bheti village in Raninagar upazila, Naogaon, went to Malaysia in 2004. After first working for a company there, he spent about 13 years in a furniture factory, where he learned carving designs into wood with digital machines. Back home, about a year and a half before the report, he rented six rooms at Abadpukur Bazar and opened a workshop named 'M/S Sharmin Furniture and Door'. Seven employees, including a designer, work there now. Lack of space means the workshop is not yet fully running, but it still earns Tk 30,000–40,000 a month. Rabbani says workers returning from abroad should put their experience to use at home rather than sit idle.
