About
Mathal is the farming project of two brothers, Hasan Shahriar Lion and Shahnewaz Sohan, of Radhakantapur village in Meherpur Sadar upazila. Shahnewaz Sohan, who came home after a pharmacy degree, first marketed farm produce through an online site called 'Inat Mart'; after that succeeded he launched the 'Mathal' farming project and a livestock project called 'Khoar'. Under Mathal, in 2023 they began growing capsicum under plastic mulch on one acre at a cost of Tk 3.5 lakh for the first time; the report also says about 100 kg a day was being picked from 2,400 plants on three bighas in all. Their younger brother Shah Farhad Sohas, who lives in the Czech Republic, oversees the science-based farming online. They started after consulting agronomists and nutritionists and testing the soil. Farmers from nearby come to see the field.
