About
Maya Ride is a ride-sharing venture for women in Dhaka in which both the rider and the passenger are women; its women riders are called 'Mayabi'. Fahad Chowdhury and his wife Jannatul Ferdous started it in April 2026 to make travel safer and more comfortable for women, after noticing that many women felt uneasy riding behind unknown male drivers; a trial campaign on Facebook drew response from both passengers and riders. The website and Facebook page went live in mid-April; the app is still being built, so rides are booked one to two hours ahead through the website, the Facebook page or by phone. It began with motorcycles and now also offers private cars, car-sharing and 'Maya Kids', a monthly package taking children to and from school. By Maya's count it has received more than 600 ride requests and completed more than 400, averaging seven to eight rides a day; about a third of requests go unmet for lack of riders. In its car-sharing service about 15 working women travel in four cars on monthly contracts. Service runs until 9 pm.
