Md. Shawkat Hossain of Maitha village, Burirchar union, Barguna Sadar, sold sugarcane juice in Dhaka for 13 years. When the Covid pandemic sent him home, he began taking his cane-crushing machine around Barguna town, for example to the Circuit House field, selling fresh sugarcane juice. He sells Tk 400-500 of juice a day. He says sales have fallen since prices of daily goods rose; this income supports his family of four and his two children's schooling.
