About
Badiuzzaman Mongol of Kunagaon village, Adampur union, Kamolganj, has gathered wild bees and honey from the hills and sold them since his teens, and for more than two decades has kept bees in boxes alongside farming. Locals call him 'Modhu Mongol' (Honey Mongol). He now keeps 52 bee boxes in a tin shed, on the veranda and in the courtyard of his home. Each box is harvested two or three times a year for 3–8 kg, giving 80–100 kg a year, mostly in Chaitra, Baishakh and Jyoishtho. He sells honey at Tk 1,000 a kg and earns Tk 1.5–2 lakh a year from it. He also builds and sells bee boxes, and sells boxes complete with bees. People come from far away to buy pure honey from him, and several villagers learned box-making and beekeeping from him.
