Mofizul Islam, a young man from Majhiara village in Tala Sadar, Satkhira, worked for years in a garment factory before starting a farm beside his home in 2019 with 19 Black Bengal goats. In the first year 28 kids died, but he kept going. In 2022 the farm had 60 goats large and small, local goats as well as Black Bengal, earning him about Tk 4 lakh a year. As he explains, Black Bengal goats kid twice a year, two to four at a time; they fall ill rarely and need only a yearly vaccination. Each goat eats Tk 15 to 20 worth of feed a day: wheat, maize, crushed gram, soybean and grass. With good profits he wants to expand, and many people seek his advice on starting goat farms after seeing his success.
