About
Moklesar Rahman of Dararpar village in Soyar union, Taragonj upazila of Rangpur, passed dakhil in 2006 but was discouraged when he could not find a job. In 2016, on the advice of his wife Motahara Akter, he started rearing goats with a Black Bengal goat he had bought as a pet from his student savings; within a year six goats had given 24 kids. The farm now has 50 goats, with another 20 placed with families on a sharing (borga) basis, and he earns an average of Tk 25,000 a month from goat sales. He feeds jackfruit leaves, straw, green grass and bran; by his reckoning a six-month-old goat sells for Tk 6,000-6,500, with Tk 2,000 of feed over six months. With the income he has bought a cow and land. According to the upazila livestock office, he has encouraged at least 10 families into goat rearing by sharing goats with them, and several villagers have started farms with goats bought from him and his advice. He dreams of a 200-goat farm.
