Mostafizur Rahman's Miniatures

Mostafizur Rahman (36), from Sengram in Jaintiapur and now living at Majortila in Sylhet city, makes and sells miniatures of the Sylhet region's heritage buildings and sculptures. In 2019 he spent three days building a bamboo miniature of the Jaintia Rajbari; when he posted photos on Facebook, a friend bought it. During Covid he also made bamboo crafts such as bottles, pen holders, motorcycles and mugs. Later his miniatures of Keane Bridge and Ali Amjad's Clock brought many orders from home and abroad. Trained in painting through certificate courses, he taught for five years from 2015 at Charukoli children's art school and at Sylhet Arts School before leaving teaching to work on miniatures full time. He uses wood, cloth, board, sticks, cement, sand, clay, stone, coins, chalk and paper, and makes only landmarks of Sylhet division. In a few months he sold at least 100 Ali Amjad's Clock miniatures, 5 Keane Bridges and 7 Batton Bari models; he can make two clocks a day, while a Keane Bridge takes two days. He promotes them on his Facebook page, with prices from Tk 1,000 to Tk 5,000. He also makes short documentaries on Sylhet's history.
