About
The integrated farm and garden of retired banker Md. Abdul Hannan in Baharmardan village, Moulvibazar Sadar. He retired in 2018 as Sylhet regional head of NCC Bank and returned to farming. On about 60 decimals he grows vegetables and spices — onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric, mustard, cinnamon, chilli, coriander and bay leaf — and he already grew rice. Another 60 decimals hold local and foreign fruit such as Saudi dates (from saplings he raised himself), avocado, olive and custard apple, with more trees on 60 decimals around the house. In the garden's pond he farms rui, katla, mrigel, carp, pangas and other fish, and he keeps 100–150 local chickens. He makes his own fish feed and organic fertiliser and works the garden himself with one labourer. After meeting the family's needs he sells surplus fruit and produce at market; he has invested Tk 5–6 lakh so far. Many people come to him for farming advice.
