About
Mukul Hossain, a farmer of Hayatpur village in the Rajganj area of Monirampur upazila, Jashore, grows bitter gourd (karola) on 45 decimals using plastic mulching. In the 2026 season he had already made Tk 80,000 profit after costs from selling bitter gourd and expected more than Tk 1 lakh for the full season. He explains that in the monsoon month of Srabon water usually pools in the fields and rots the plants at the base, but on raised beds covered in plastic sheet water does not collect, weeds do not grow and there are fewer pests, so he spends less on sprays and labour and gets a bigger yield. He is one of 10 farmers the NGO Nabolok Parishad trained and supplied with mulching materials, with funding from PKSF.
