About
Muslema Begum of Charpumbail village, Barohit union, Iswarganj, Mymensingh, makes vermicompost in her yard. Her husband Md. Khokon Mia is a sharecropper and mason's labourer, and the family with four children struggled. In 2023, on the local agriculture office's advice and as a demonstration under the Greater Mymensingh crop-intensity project, she received a tin shed, 10 ring slabs and worms and began production. She now works 20 ring slabs and three beds in two tin sheds, making compost almost cost-free from two cows' dung and banana plants. She sells vermicompost at Tk 550–600 a maund and worms at Tk 1,500–1,600 a kg, earning Tk 7,000–10,000 a month. In January 2025 the agriculture department also gave her a machine. Her children help, and she plans to expand.
