About
In Ujirpur village, Narail Sadar upazila, the couple Nazmul Molla and Swarna Yasmin grow chui jhal on three and a half acres. Every tree in their garden, mango, jackfruit, lychee, coconut and areca alike, has several chui vines climbing it. They began in 2021 with four or five plants and, by cutting and replanting shoots, had about 3,000 chui plants by 2024, and have started selling. Swarna Yasmin says chui costs little to grow, needs no separate land and fetches far more than it costs; they plan to plant chui on every tree in the garden. Chui jhal is sold by the weight of the vine, and the older the plant, the higher the price.
