About
Nejab Ali (40), a farmer in Aliarpur village, Ullapara upazila, Sirajganj, has profited from growing tomatoes with plastic mulch. After training from the NGO Manab Mukti Sangstha (MMS), he prepared beds on 25 decimals of land beside his house and planted seedlings at the end of October 2024. By March 2025 he had sold about 8 maunds of tomatoes, with plenty still on the plants and many people coming to see the plot. His total cost for the 25 decimals was Tk 40,000-42,000; despite low market prices he expected a profit of Tk 25,000-30,000 that season. The upazila agriculture officer named Nejab Ali of Aliarpur among the farmers who have succeeded with tomatoes, and others are now taking up the method after seeing his plot.
