New Mama Enterprise in Rupsha, Khulna, is a mud eel (kuchia) wholesale depot owned by Mrinal Kanti Dey. Collectors send live eels here from Abhaynagar and Manirampur in Jashore, Terokhada in Khulna, Chitalmari in Bagerhat and other areas. From the depot the eels are sold to exporters in Dhaka and then shipped live to China, Taiwan and other countries. Last year the depot sent 150 tonnes of kuchia to Dhaka exporters. Suppliers such as Kumar Bairagi, an eel trader from Abhaynagar, send their eels to this depot regularly.
