About
Farmer Rafiqul Islam (35) and his wife Brishti Banu of Chandpur village, Hapania union, Naogaon Sadar, drew attention by growing the BARI-12 'lau begun' eggplant, a first for the district. After failing with other vegetables, they joined the NGO Mausumi and trained in eggplant growing in 2024, planting the 600 seedlings it supplied on 15 decimals of their own land. Each eggplant weighs 1 to 1.5 kg, and each plant has borne 7-8 kg. Rafiqul says he took 1.5 maunds to Naogaon market and sold them at Tk 1,600 a maund, when other eggplants fetched Tk 500. People come from far away every day to see the field.
