Rafiqul Islam's Farm

The huge Friesian bull 'Jomidar' was raised on the farm of Rafiqul Islam in the Boga Nangla area of Melandah upazila, Jamalpur; it weighs about 1,300 kg and is about six feet tall and 11 feet long. It was born in the farm's cowshed four years ago; feeding it bananas, duck eggs, local grass, maize and wheat bran costs Tk 1,000–2,000 a day, and it is regularly bathed with shampoo. He turned down an offer of Tk 6.2 lakh the year before; for Eid-ul-Azha 2026 he planned to take it to Dhaka, hoping for Tk 13–14 lakh. His wife Rozina Begum and the whole family look after it, and crowds come to his home every day to see it.
