About
Meherunnesa, a homemaker in Jalalpur village of Kamolganj upazila, Moulvibazar, has built Rahman Mariam (RM) Dairy Farm and Agro Fisheries beside her home. After graduating in 2002 she married Hanifur Rahman Belal, an administrative officer of Sylhet City Corporation; encouraged by her husband and in-laws, and inspired by the 'One House One Farm' project, she started the farm in 2014 with just 12 cows and one shed. Within a few years the herd grew to over 150 cattle in four sheds. The farm produces 550–600 litres of milk a day on average and also supplies meat; every year 10 to 12 large bulls are sold for Eid-ul-Azha. She earns about Tk 1 lakh a month from selling milk and cattle. The farm employs 12–15 people, and her two brothers-in-law, Altafur Rahman and Alal Mia, also help.
