Rahul Store is one of the century-old jaggery (gur) shops still surviving at the historic Torki Bandar in Gournadi; it was once widely known as 'Saha Babu's Gur Shop'. The Saha family's gur trade has run for several generations: their father Jagadish Chandra Saha started business in this shop, and it is now run by two brothers, Ratan Saha and Swapan Saha, with their children. The port once had 34 wholesale gur depots; only two remain. On market days the shop used to keep two 'sarkars' (accountants) and eight to ten labourers loading gur pots onto trawlers; now one accountant and one labourer work there. The shop deals in sugarcane and date-palm gur.
