About
Samir Chandra Ghosh of Hastabasantapur Ghoshpara in Akkelpur town, Joypurhat, has made sweets by hand and sold them village to village for about 30 years; his father and grandfather did the same. Every dawn he boils milk to make khirsha, pera sandesh and rasmalai, then carries the pots on his shoulder and walks 30-40 km through villages in Joypurhat, Bogura and Naogaon. He sells about Tk 10,000-12,000 worth of sweets a day, which supports his family. He is known above all for his rasmalai; buyers in Rukindipur (Akkelpur), Badalgachi (Naogaon) and Dupchanchia (Bogura) say people wait for him to arrive, and his prices are affordable.
