About
Saurav Kumar Biswas (30), an educated young man from Tulatoli village, Latachapli union, Kalapara upazila (Mohipur police station), Patuakhali, planted just 12 dragon fruit cuttings from a teacher beside his house in 2018. After his HSC in 2022, when he could not join the police, he made farming his career. In 2023, on the advice of his father Swapan Kumar Biswas, he scaled up; the garden now covers two bighas with about 2,000 plants of varieties including Elora, Palora, Red Velvet, Bolder and Thai Red. Artificial lights at night extend flowering, so he harvests fruit all twelve months, not only in the May-November season. He told BSS he sells about Tk 20 lakh of dragon fruit a year (a Daily Inqilab report puts his income at Tk 8-9 lakh a year). Visitors come from far away every day; locals call it the biggest dragon garden in the area, and the agriculture department calls it a model to follow.
