About
Md. Sekendar Ali Babu (27), a young entrepreneur from Katabari village in Fulbari upazila of Dinajpur, started after watching a YouTube video on growing ginger in sacks in mid-July 2024. On fallow land beside his home he mixed ash, organic fertiliser and sand into a growing medium and filled sacks with it; with an investment of about Tk 2 lakh he is now growing ginger in 3,000 sacks, which he hopes will sell for Tk 4-5 lakh. Each sack yields about 2.5 to 3 kg of ginger and needs little fertiliser or pesticide. People come from across the upazila to see his ginger, and he advises them. If it pays, he plans to grow on a larger scale.
