About
Shah Alam's tea stall stands by the road in the Pulhat area of Dinajpur municipality, where he also lives; he has sold tea for 30 years. After tasting chilli tea in India while there for his wife's treatment, and seeing it made in Rajshahi, he began making it himself, and has sold tamarind, chilli and lemon tea for 9 years. The stall offers 8 to 10 kinds of tea and is especially popular for its green-chilli tea: sugar, the juice of half a lemon, tea liquor, hot water, one green chilli and a special spice mix he makes himself; every tea gets chopped ginger. He sells about three thousand cups a day, Tk 30,000-35,000 in sales, and the crowd doubles after dusk. People come from far away for his tea. With the stall's income he has put his son and daughter through higher education. He has taught tea sellers in markets across Sadar upazila how to make these teas, and advises jobless young men who come to him.
