About
Shibli Noman (32) of Dakshin Basudebpur in Hakimpur upazila town, Dinajpur, runs a goat farm beside his home. He started as a hobby with four goats bought for Tk 14,000; within a year they gave 16 kids, which sold for Tk 84,000. On the advice of the upazila livestock office he then bought Jamunapari, Totapari, Haryana and Black Bengal goats and set up a raised-platform (macha) farm. The farm now has 120 goats of the four breeds, worth about Tk 25 lakh. On fallow land beside the house he grows hydroponic grass in soil-free trays, and feeds the goats wheat, maize and gram meal, soybean and straw. He vaccinates against PPR and goat pox once a year. For Eid-ul-Azha 2026 he was fattening 25 goats and expected to earn Tk 4-5 lakh from them. The district livestock office says 10-15 more goat farms have started in the upazila following his example.
