About
Sumona of Natore, a homemaker with a master's degree, bought one adenium at a tree fair twelve years ago as a hobby and has since made adenium her profession. Her rooftop of about 2,500 sq ft holds thousands of varieties from Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines, and she recently added 35 plants from Indonesia. New plants are raised from seed and by grafting, which she does herself; two workers help in the garden. Her potting media are made from leaf mould, bone and horn meal, rice husk, Domar sand and vermicompost. Plants are sold mainly online; from July to November she sold Tk 11.5 lakh worth. The deputy director of the Natore Horticulture Centre called her the pioneer of adenium in Natore. She plans an exhibition, another garden at Madhukhali and a move into the Dubai market.
