About
Mostafa Tamjid-ul Islam, son of the late Awal-ul Islam Rana of Barbakpur village in Jhikargacha upazila, Jashore, earned a diploma in telecommunication engineering at Jashore Government Polytechnic Institute and worked for a private electronics company. Thinking of his family, he came home to farm and in 2023 grew high-yielding Dhumketu and Naga Fire chillies on one and a half bigha for the first time. He brought seedlings from Bogura in early April; fruit came in 45 days and full picking began at 55 days. He now picks four maunds a week, harvesting every five to six days. Mulching raised the cost to Tk 60,000; he has already sold about Tk 200,000 of chillies and expects a profit of at least Tk 250,000. The chillies are large and very hot, so they are in demand and fetch a good price.
