The owner put the loss at about 25-30 lakh taka; the Fire Service put it at 15-20 lakh. The two figures are roughly 10 lakh apart, and without stock records there is no way to prove which is right. The canal ghat had been encroached, which delayed firefighters in drawing water. With shop and godowns all in one place, the entire stock went at once.
