A maund of mango makes 4 kg dried, sold at 2,000-2,400 taka a kg

In their first season two entrepreneurs made 700 kg and 300 kg of dried mango and sold the lot, at 2,400 and 2,000 taka a kg. A maund of ripe mango yields only about 4 kg dried.

Two entrepreneurs in Chapai Nawabganj, the country's main mango district, dried mango for the first time this season. The arithmetic has to be known first: a maund of ripe fruit boils down to only about 4 kg of dried mango, and the price has to follow that ratio. One made 700 kg and priced it at 2,400 taka a kg online; the other, in Shibganj, made 300 kg and sold at 2,000 taka a kg. Selling direct online rather than through a wholesaler is what held those prices, and both sold their entire first-season stock. They also make mango powder, dried jackfruit and dried guava, with banana and pineapple planned. For next year one is targeting at least 20 metric tons and the other 13.
