Paralysed in a fall, he opened a computer training centre in 2022 and now employs 4-5 people
A young man in Nawabganj, Dinajpur, whose lower body was paralysed in a fall from a mango tree, learned computing from a wheelchair and opened a training centre beside the upazila parishad gate. It now combines training, typing, digital services and equipment repair, and employs four or five people.
On 8 June 2021 a 32-year-old man from Nawabganj upazila in Dinajpur fell from a mango tree and his body below the waist was permanently paralysed. Doctors told him he would never walk again. After his HSC he had worked from 2014 as a technician at the Nawabganj upazila parishad on a project of the ICT Division, and when that project ended he kept looking for a livelihood. After a year of treatment he decided to start something new and learned many kinds of computer work while sitting in a wheelchair. In 2022 he set up the Digital Computer Training Centre next to the upazila parishad gate. As an entrepreneur of the upazila parishad digital centre he also runs his own computer-based business. It offers digital services, including typing, according to customers' needs, and also does computer, laptop and printer servicing. He gives the training with his own hands, and he has earned a good name locally. Four or five employees now work at the centre. A young man with a disability is taking free training there. The upazila social services office has given him various kinds of help and the social services officer says this will continue. The report gives no figures for capital or income.
Lessons
- 1.Running training, typing and digital services, and computer and printer servicing together in one place gives more than one source of income.
- 2.Experience from an earlier job, here as a technician at the upazila parishad, can be the foundation of a new business.
- 3.A spot beside the upazila parishad gate makes it easy to reach people who need services, and help from local government offices adds to it.
