Skincare sales on Facebook began with Tk 5,000; now with a shop, Tk 7 to 8 lakh a month
A student in Khagrachhari began selling imported skincare on Facebook with her own Tk 5,000 savings. She opened a shop in April 2024 and now sells Tk 7 to 8 lakh a month.
A young woman in Khagrachhari runs a business selling imported skincare products alongside her studies. In 2019, seeing many Facebook pages, she wanted to do something of her own. She learned from YouTube how to photograph products and market them on Facebook, then opened a page called Tamsa Closet. Her starting capital was just Tk 5,000 of her own savings. Covid in 2020 brought the business almost to a halt, but she kept going, and at that time she and her father delivered products to customers themselves. According to Prothom Alo, she buys Korean, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese products from importers and sells them retail. In April 2024 she opened a shop in Khagrachhari that sells girls' clothing as well as skincare. Altogether sales are Tk 7 to 8 lakh a month, and she also covers her family's expenses. Early on, relatives and neighbours criticised a girl doing business, but her father stood by her on the condition that she keep studying well. Most of her customers belong to minority ethnic groups, and she plans to build her brand across Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban.
Lessons
- 1.You can test sales on Facebook with very little capital; the shop came much later, after sales were established.
- 2.Learning photography and promotion yourself saves money at the start.
- 3.Choosing products to suit the needs of customers in a specific area makes them easier to keep.
