Started at home in 2020 with 3,000 taka. Sales now run at 3-3.5 lakh taka a month on a 15-17 percent margin after costs, with 21-30 people working.

This woman in West Ramnagar, Dinajpur town, began making knotted-cord goods at home in 2020 with 3,000 taka. She now makes more than a hundred product types from macrame cord, Samarian thread, wool, beads, feathers, cane rings and wood: dreamcatchers, rope curtains, prayer-mat hangers, baskets, pen holders, key rings, table lamps, mats and rugs. The report puts monthly sales at 3-3.5 lakh taka on a margin of 15-17 percent after costs. Between 21 and 30 people work at the unit, many of them students, earning 6,000-10,000 taka a month on average. At any time she carries about 2 lakh taka of finished stock and 6-6.5 lakh taka of raw material. Most of the selling is done through her Facebook page.
