Started at 14, two years in another man's garage, now five workers and 15,000 a month

Both his legs have been non-functional since birth; at 14 he chose motorcycle repair and spent two years learning in someone else's garage. His own workshop now has five workers, brings 15,000 taka a month and supports a household of seven.

This 26-year-old from Jamudanga village in Sadullapur upazila, Gaibandha, has had both legs non-functional since birth, and his father was a day labourer. Because of his disability he chose motorcycle repair at 14 and spent two years working in someone else's garage to learn the trade hands-on. He then opened his own workshop on Madarganj Road in the Paschimpara area of Sadullapur, where five workers including his elder brother now work. The report puts his monthly income at 15,000 taka, on which a household of seven runs. A customer quoted in the piece says his work is skilled despite the disability and his repair charges are far lower than others'. In his own words: "If the will is there, a physical disability is no obstacle."
