Started with Tk 300; 100 kg of beef pickle a month, earning Tk 3-4 lakh a month
After her husband lost his job in the Covid period, a woman in Bogura started a business with Tk 300 from her daughter's piggy bank. Selling online, she now reports Tk 3-4 lakh a month from beef pickle and ghee.
In 2020 the husband of a woman in Bogura city lost his hotel job because of Covid. With two children at home and no income, she was inspired by a Facebook group for women entrepreneurs. With Tk 300 from breaking her daughter's piggy bank she made potato chips and began selling them online with photos. Profit came quickly, which gave her courage, and she went on to sell chanachur and sarees. The big success came with beef pickle. She saw a recipe on YouTube, made it at home, and the photos she posted online drew a huge response. At first she made mango, olive, jujube, amla, garlic and chilli pickles, and later added ghee, curd, lachha semai and mustard oil. About 100 kg of beef pickle now sells each month at Tk 1,000 a kg, plus about 50 kg of garlic pickle and 100 kg of ghee. She sells mainly through a women and e-commerce forum and other online groups. By her account, her products have reached all 64 districts and 47 countries. She earns Tk 3-4 lakh a month, 15 employees work with her, and the capital of the business that began with Tk 300 is now Tk 20 lakh. She wants to build a full brand of local products. The report gives no cost figures.
Lessons
- 1.You can test the market by selling online with photos from a very small start.
- 2.Make the product that draws the biggest response (here beef pickle) your core line and run the others alongside.
- 3.Keep ingredient and packaging costs separate from income figures, or you cannot see the profit.
