Home stitching started with Tk 10,000, now Tk 3-4 lakh in monthly sales
A homemaker in Rangpur city learned needlework from YouTube, made a panjabi for her husband and started selling through a Facebook page. After losing money to a cheating overseas buyer she restarted, and now gives work to more than 50 women.
This young woman from the Satmatha Bir Bhadra Railgate area of Rangpur city married in 2017 while in class ten. Wanting to earn from home, she got a mobile phone her husband bought on instalments. She learned needlework from YouTube and first made a hand-embroidered panjabi for her husband. In 2021 she opened a Facebook page called 'Hater Chhowa' and spent about Tk 10,000 on fabric, needles, thread and small tools. Then came a big setback: an Italy-based expatriate placed an order worth Tk 2.5 lakh, but she was cheated and lost about Tk 45,000. In 2023, having improved her design and fine stitching skills, she restarted. Her page now sells panjabis, kameez, fatuas, two-pieces and nakshi kantha. According to the report, sales run at about Tk 3-4 lakh a month and her own monthly income is Tk 30,000-45,000. More than 50 women work with her; a woman can earn Tk 2,000-5,000 a month. She wants to expand so more women can find work.
