Coloured tomato sauce made without a food licence: Sakhipur factory fined Tk 3 lakh and shut
A factory in Sakhipur, Tangail, had long been making tomato sauce, juice, lassi and chanachur with colours and chemicals and selling them. A mobile court fined it Tk 3 lakh and shut it until it obtains a licence.
According to a September 2025 Desh Rupantor report, a mobile court raided a food factory in the Protimabonki Purbopara area of Sakhipur upazila, Tangail. The allegation was that the factory had long been making and selling large quantities of tomato sauce mixed with unfit colours, along with juice, lassi, chanachur and other adulterated and fake products, adding various chemicals and colours. The owner admitted the charges before the court. He had reportedly faced a mobile court and paid a fine before. The upazila nirbahi officer said the factory could not show any licence to produce food; for this and other irregularities it was fined Tk 3 lakh. The factory was shut until it obtains a food production licence, and a large quantity of fake products was destroyed. So besides the fine, the business lost its stock and its production days.
Lessons
- 1.Get a food production licence before running a sauce or ketchup factory; without it the factory can be shut as well as fined.
- 2.Adding unapproved colours or chemicals to cut costs risks destruction of all stock; repeating it after a first penalty makes the loss bigger.
