What went wrongA deed writer in Tarash, Sirajganj, in a Dainik Ittefaq report

Land bought for 7.26 lakh registered in his own name, and the deed writer loses his licence

A deed writer in Tarash, Sirajganj, registered a 1.5-bigha plot bought for 726,000 taka in his own name instead of the buyer's; his licence was cancelled once the complaint was substantiated.

A deed writer in Tarash upazila, Sirajganj, was given the job of registering land bought by a man working in Dubai. The buyer purchased 1.5 bighas of farmland in Kohit mouza on 22 February 2021 for 726,000 taka, but according to the complaint the deed writer took advantage of the buyer's elderly parents and registered the plot in his own name instead. The family asked repeatedly for the certified copy of the deed and never got it; on 26 December 2024 they obtained a copy by other means and discovered what had happened, then found when trying to pay land tax and mutate the record that the deed made the writer the owner. On 19 April 2026 the buyer's mother complained in writing to the deputy commissioner and the district registrar, and after a field inquiry found the complaint substantiated, the district registrar cancelled his licence. The deputy commissioner said cancelling the licence was not enough and the land must be returned to its rightful owner. A trade that stands entirely on a licence and on trust ended here over a single deed.

Lessons

  1. 1.A deed writer's business rests entirely on a licence and on trust: one proven fraud ends the trade
  2. 2.Not receiving the certified copy after registration is the moment to act: withholding it is a standard trick
