About
Ajit Rudra, a potter in Rudrapara, Sadhanpur, Banshkhali, Chattogram, has worked in the trade for 30 years. He makes ritual and wedding pots, date-sap pitchers, hookah bowls (kolki), lamps, flower tubs, jugs, mugs, tea cups, bowls, pen holders, vases, foot scrubbers, mosquito-coil holders and cooking pots, helped by his wife Krishna Rudra. On 29 December he took part in a four-day pottery cluster organised by the Ministry of Industries in Bauphal, Patuakhali, to share experience. He says the local loamy soil is hard to work, while clay soil is easier. The neighbourhood's pottery is bought by traders from Chattogram city and local wholesalers.
