About
Atikur Rahman Atik of Putiapara, Debidwar upazila, Cumilla, took up malta farming after returning from abroad. In November 2019 he planted 500 BARI-1 malta saplings supplied by the agriculture department on 12 decimals. With regular care the trees have fruited; for the 2022 season he expected 1,000 kg of malta and at least Tk 1 lakh in income. He says buyers like locally grown fruit and the prices are good. He shares his story with anyone who visits the orchard and plans a second one. Seeing his success, many neighbours are thinking of growing malta.
