About
Md. Babul Mia, a fisherman in Subarnachar, Noakhali, fishes the sea and rivers; he used to sit idle during fishing bans and was in debt all year. Now he earns lakhs of taka farming fish in cages in a Subarnachar canal. At first he feared the fish would be stolen or the cages washed away, but he succeeded the very first time. Monosex tilapia are cage-farmed in the area with PKSF funding and support from the Sagarika Samaj Unnayan Sangstha; tilapia grow twice as fast in cages as in ponds and are ready for sale in three to four months.
