Harun or Rashid is the proprietor of Bhai Bhai Matsya Khamar (Bhai Bhai Fish Farm) in the Chanchra area of Jashore town. For his contribution to monosex tilapia production — producing the most tilapia in the country — he won the national award twice, in 2013 and 2017. In the 2019–20 financial year he stocked 5 million fry in 19 ponds covering 250 bighas and produced 700,000 kg of tilapia. With the price of feed and other inputs rising, in 2022 he stocked only 200,000 fry and moved from tilapia alone to mixed fish farming. By his account, a kilo of monosex tilapia takes 1.7 kg of ready feed (Tk 127), and with pond lease, medicine, fertiliser, electricity and labour the cost comes to Tk 167 a kilo, while the wholesale price is Tk 160–170.
