About
About fifteen years ago Dulal Munshi (54) opened a small eatery at the east end of the Bekutia ferry ghat in Pirojpur. At first he served paratha and sweets and made a few kilos of milk doi, and the doi's reputation slowly spread. Since the Bangamata bridge over the Kocha river opened, 'Bekutia's Dulal Munshi doi' has become even more popular with people who come to see the bridge. Locals say the doi is set naturally from pure milk without chemicals, which is why it tastes so good. Demand for doi grew so much that he stopped making sweets. Over Eid he has demand for doi from two maunds of milk a day for four or five days, but cannot get enough milk and has to turn customers away. Because milk prices rose, a kilo of doi now costs Tk 200, up from Tk 150 a year earlier. People even come from Barishal with friends to eat it.
