Grambangla Nursery

About

Grambangla Nursery is the mango orchard and nursery of college student Md. Emon (22) at Panchkipara, Upadi village, Matlab South upazila, Chandpur. A third-year degree student at Matlab Government Degree College, Emon—with the encouragement and money of his father Billal Hossain—leased 140 decimals for Tk 5 lakh in 2024 and spent about Tk 9 lakh on the orchard and nursery. Its 400-plus trees of 40 varieties, brought from the agricultural research institute at Gabtoli, Dhaka, include Amrapali, BARI-4, Haribhanga, Banana, Miyazaki, Chiang Mai, Kiew Sawoei, Red Palmer and Brunei King, with varieties from Japan, China, Thailand, Brunei and the USA. The trees first fruited in February 2026; selling about 30 maunds of chemical-free mangoes has made about Tk 1 lakh profit after costs, and he expects another Tk 1 lakh from the remaining mangoes and grafted saplings. Most mangoes sell at the orchard, and there is demand in Chandpur, Dhaka, Cumilla and Narayanganj. He hopes for over 300 maunds next season.
