Freedom fighter Jalal Uddin of Bel Toil village, Nalitabari, Sherpur, has a malta garden on about two acres. In 2022 he planted about 800 coffee seedlings in the unused spaces between the malta trees. The plants fruited in 2025, and he sold about 500 kg of coffee cherries from the garden for Tk 75,000. In this area at the foot of the Garo hills, coffee entrepreneur Sajjad Hossain buys coffee cherries from growers.
